Air Conditioning

At the beginning, cars lacked any type of protection for passengers against the weather, as they were completely open. When driving techniques and rules started to be mastered, folding and even fixed roofs modelled on horse carriages were implemented. Around the 1920s and 30s closed body cars became more and more poular, although 2 and 4-door convertible models were still a huge success.

Later, closed-body cars were generalised, leaving convertibles with a youthful, sporty image as they have today. With closed bodies it became possible to add heating with several variants, as well as ventilation.

In the 40s air conditioning finally was introduced, in small units, into vehicles in the United States, pioneers in their consideration of cars as practical transport means accessible to everyone. This device then became popular in Europe, and today is a basic piece of equipment of even the cheapest cars.
